What Causes Persistent High Fever Along With Vomiting And Chills?
Hello My 16 year old has been sick since Friday after football. He slept all day Friday with a fever of 102. He slept all day yesterday. Got up and showered but hasn t eaten anything for 3 days. He was vomiting last night. Today fever is gone. Replaced by chills. Still vomiting
Fever for more than three days should be investigated to identify the cause since self resolving viral fever disappears by three days.Presence of vomiting can also indicate meningitis or encephalitis.
Vomiting and abdominal pain can indicate appendicitis or diverticulitis. Complete blood count, peripheral smear abdominal ultrasound, Widal and Antibody testing should be done. Gastroenteritis and dehydration should also be ruled out. Intravenous fluid, antibiotic and paracetamol may be required to bring down fever.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
