Hi,

Fever for more than three days should be investigated to identify the cause since self resolving viral fever disappears by three days.Presence of vomiting can also indicate meningitis or encephalitis.

Vomiting and abdominal pain can indicate appendicitis or diverticulitis. Complete blood count, peripheral smear abdominal ultrasound, Widal and Antibody testing should be done. Gastroenteritis and dehydration should also be ruled out. Intravenous fluid, antibiotic and paracetamol may be required to bring down fever.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
