What Causes Persistent Irritation In The Throat After Removal Of Obstruction?

Last night I inhaled wrong while eating peanuts and one got stuck in my windpipe. After coughing continuously for five minutes, I finally dislodged the whole peanut. I still feel some irritation in area of right upper lung. Was this an emergency situation? Why the irritation now? I am 75 years old and my weight is around 185 lbs. I am normally healthy.
