What Causes Persistent Lump In Armpit Despite Draining The Abscess?

I wen to emergency room I bad pain. They treated Me for abcess.it started in armpit and was hard.no skin discoloration.they numbed it tried to get fluid out.got nun!sent home,the next morning it got huge,went to my arm and arm was red.couldn t move arm!went bk and he cut it open and pkd it.I have finished anitiotics.not complelty gone on arm, and still a painless big knot in armpit..what do I do??

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you have persistent lump in armpit despite draining the abscess . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query bacterial or viral infections , fat tissue growths (lipomas) , allergic reactions , noncancerous , fibrous tissue growth (fibroadenoma) , breast cancer , cancer of the lymphatic system and lupus or SLE . Sometimes infection remain even after drainage and treatment may grow again . I would suggest you to consult General practitioner without any delay . Doctor may order X-ray , ultra sound and blood test . Doctor may also order biopsy . Doctor may prescribe stronger antibiotics , anti viral drug ( acyclovir ) along with anti inflammatory . Doctor may recommend surgical removal and radiation therapy .
