What Causes Persistent Muscle Spasms And Swelling In The Legs And The Feet?
I have been having constant muscle spasms in my legs and feet. Sometimes it s bearable and sometimes it s really painful where my toes, feet or calves tighten up and take a really long time to loosen up. It happens often. Pretty much Every week, usually multiple times a week. Most often at night. Sometimes it s twitching muscles In one part of my body but most often its cramping in the lower part of my body and mostly its in my feet. I ve also had a lot of swelling in my feet and ankles. It s been going on for months now. And also some swelling in my hands but not as bad. I had a physical and nothing abnormal showed up in my blood tests. It seemed to start after I had my son 3 years ago. While I was pregnant with him i had a lot of swelling but no complications. I ve always had muscle spasms/ cramps but it used to be rare. Now it s frequent. Otherwise, Overall I m pretty healthy with no health issues whatsoever.
Well, there are several possible causes. This may be a beginning of leg cellulitis which is inflammation of subcutaneous tissues and may develop into diabetic foot or even diabetic gangrene so any swelling, redness or pain in legs in someone who has diabetes should be evaluated by medical professionals since antibiotics may have to be started as soon as possible to prevent spreading of infection.
He should do at least basic blood tests and blood sugar to see if there is significant infection or not.
