What Causes Persistent Nasal Discharge?
Hi Doctor my wife is having constant unusual amount of phlegm in her through and nose for a year now without having cold or any related symptoms..only phlegm ..sometimes it is too much she can chock on it and cannot breach...what do you suggest is the reason for such constant excessive amount of phlegm..Thanks

Such type expectoration ( phlegm ) may be due to these possibilities , these include :
1 Allergic bronchitis ,due to allergy sometimes develop such expectoration . Dust , mite , pollen , hay , fine dusting powder , smoking ( active passive )are the main predisposing factors.
2 Bronchiectsis is another most common cause , so get X RAY chest and expectoration examination.
3 Lung abscess .
So , please get in XRAY chest , blood for CBC, ESR . Consult a physician and get his opinion as mentioned above.
