What Causes Persistent Numbness Around The Waist Area Post Discectomy?
I had back surgery, discectomy (arthroscopic) at L3 and upon waking up in recovery my whole waist area was numb. This is still the situation almost 6 months later. There was a spinal cord leak that was patched during surgery. No feeling in penis, scrotum, perineum and buttocks since this surgery in May of this year. I can acquire an erection but have no feeling thus no ejaculation or sexual satisfaction. What tests should he done at this time? When should I consider the nerves in the back where surgery was performed to not be expected to recover? I feel like the levator ani muscles are in a state of constant contraction. I have seen a pelvic health physical therapist for around 6-7 one hour visits. I did have a neurosurgeon look at my post MRI scan after surgery above and he recommended fusion at L3/L4 and I had this open back surgery 2 months after above surgery as I was experiencing sciatica and numbness in waist area after first (botched) surgery. Another neurosurgeon confirmed I needed a second surgery after reviewing MRI after first surgery.
