What Causes Persistent Pain And Swelling In Inner Side Of Knee?

I am having pain to the inner side of my rt knee, primarily at the bend of the knee; and swelling to the lower part of my leg to the ankle/top of foot. The swelling goes down with elevation and rest. I also have swelling to the knee. I had a Doppler which showed no clots/problems. The pain is constant, increase with walking activity, sometimes the pain increases while sitting. Decreased ROM, stiffness with long periods of sitting and lying. I had an knee xray 16months ago which showed degenerative changes (mild). What is going on with my knee? No one has given me a good answer. I am only 45, but am on my feet most of my work day.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have persistent pain and swelling in inner side of knee. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like ACL injury , torn meniscus , knee bursitis , patellar tendinitis or arthritis. Weakness of inner quards can also cause such symptoms , so strengthening exercises of inner quards will help alot .I would suggest you to take proper rest , apply warm compresses several times a day , take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and do gentle massage with almond oil . Consult orthopedic surgeon if condition doesn't get better . Doctor may order blood test , CT scan , MRI along with physical examination . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant , anti inflammatory , methotrexate along with physical therapy .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
