What Causes Persistent Pain Below The Ribcage?

Hello I am 61 yrs old and I had ulcerative colitis many years ago, then iit got better. now for about 1 1/2 years ive had severe pain below my ribs I also have a fatty liver, I was told from taking too much strong meds. I had a CT Scan today and I am waiting for a call to get another colonoscopy, I had one in 2015 and it showed ok. The pain is severe enough I have to take a pain pill and lie down. I m seeing a specialist in L.R., AR. I also have diarrahea a lot. I have chills and then I get really hot. I just want to know what you think about this. There is blood from my rectum occasionally and in the toilet. not much. l

Hi,

The symptoms you explain with pain below the rib cage (which is in the upper abdominal area, the area where the bowl lays), diarrhea and blood with stools and also feeling chills are typical of ulcerative colitis and in your case this may be a flare of it.

Colonoscopy is the best examination for diagnosis so it is good you are already planned to have it done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
