What Causes Persistent Pain In Left Knee?

My knee has been hurting for about a month, just my left knee. It is,painful when I bend it. I am a walker and it hurts to walk for 55 minutes. I,thought it was because of climbing MANY steps daily while on vacation a month ago. Thanks for your response.
