Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m 22 year old male. Over the past 2 weeks I have had increasing tailbone pain. This started around the same time I was hired for a grocery stock job that entailed at least 8 hrs a shift of standing, walking and crouching (16-20 hrs/week).I know that I do have a more sedentary life style as a student spending a good deal of time sitting and laying in bed. I quit the job, because of my inability to work. I have not suffered any trauma due to falls or any sort of significant impact recently (within the last 3 months). The pain is increasing by the day when walking. It has started to move up to the right side of my lower back. The pain is sharp and constant. Can you tell me anything to help? Pleae and thank you.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have persistent pain in tailbone. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like Osteomyelitis, Spinal Infection or local trauma .Nerve compression can also be one of the reasons . I would suggest you to do not sit or stand in one pose for long time , apply warm compresses on tailbone and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . If condition doesn't get well then consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan or MRI . Doctor may prescribe anti inflammatory along with vitamin supplement , calcium supplement and surgery in severe damage .
