What Causes Persistent Pain In The Neck, Back And Arm Despite Taking Prednisone?

I think I have a pinched nerve in my neck. I was involved in a mva in 2014 so have neck injury to discs. I have had a lot of pain in my neck and back and arm and tingling in arm and all fingers in right arm for the last week. I went in to orthopedic urgent care on Tuesday and they gave me Prednisone. I ve been taking 3 days and the pain and tingling is worse. I can t get in to my doctor until July 20 but I can t hold out until then. Is there anything else I can do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Do continue to take prednisone that you have been prescribed by your treating doctor. For relieve you can take acetaminophen (tylenol), one sos when pain. Tingling in the arm & fingers are indicative of some developing peripheral neuropathy. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a Neurologist, get Nerve Conduction Tests & Nerve biopsy done along with Imaging tests. Other medical conditions that can cause similar symptoms are cervical spondylosis, slip disc, poor posture, muscle strain, overuse, sitting on computer for prolonged periods, etc. Stay active, maintain proper posture, take adequate sleep. Your treatment will depend on the report of the tests & severity of the symptoms detected. Take Vitamin B6 & B12 supplements.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
