What Causes Persistent Pain In The Tongue?

My tongue has been hurting for three days. Today, it feels prickly as well. Why does my tongue hurt. I woke up with it feeling this way a couple days ago. Has nothing to do with what I ate. Also, it is not red or swollen or in any way abcessed.

Thanks

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms of APTHOUS STOMATITIS in which there is pain, tingling and prickly feeling of tongue for 2 to 3 days before ulcers appear.
A sore and painful tongue can also be due to Vitamin B12 deficiency.
Many a times stress and panic attack can also be a cause..

Nothing to worry as there seems to be nothing serious about it and you can gargle with a numbing mouthwash for relief.
Take a Multivitamin tablet daily for 1 month.
Take Ibuprofen for relieving pain and discomfort.
Avoid hot and spicy food.
Do cold water rinses.
Keep calm and avoid stress.

Hopefully you will start feeling better in 3 to 4 days.

In case if the symptoms does not start resolving, consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
