What Causes Persistent Pain In Urinary Meatus Despite Taking Bactrim?
Hi, I have been having pain in my urinary meatus for about three weeks. I have taken Cipro and Bactrim DS. I haven t had sex in 2 months. I had std test last month and they came out negative, I had a urinalysis and it was normal. I also had urinalysis with culture and no bacteria was found. I went to the urology and he said that it probably is a viral bladder infection. I want to know what I can do about the pain
Pain over the urinary meatus is usually seen when the urine is acidic. This can happen when one does not drink a lot of water and this causes the body to retain water. When the water is retained, more H+ is secreted into the urine and this causes a burning pain.
Another reason for pain can be when there is a local injury which causes inflammation substances to release and causes a swelling. Icing the area for about 3 minutes can help to reduce the pain as well.
In case the pain still persists, a swab of the meatus with a culture and sensitivity test may help to get to the cause of the disease.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards, Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni
