What Causes Persistent Pain On The Back Of Knee And Thigh While Walking?

I have persistent (when walking) pain at back of my knee and entire back of my thigh when walking - difficult to bear weight when acute. This is sometimes accompanied by similar pain down my calf, or the entire leg aching. History of Trochanteric bursitis as well as diagnosed sciatic nerve damage on that side. The pain isn t simply nerve pain, though, it feels like a clutching or tearing pain. There are times I cannot bear any weight on that leg. I see a doctor on 9/26. Is that too long to wait. This has been a painful problem for up to two months now.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Most probably it will be a spine-related problem like a prolapsed disc or nerve compression.
As a first line management you can take drugs like gabapentin for pain relief.
If symptoms persist better to consult an orthopedic and plan for an MRI spine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
