What Causes Persistent Pain On The Scalp Along With Redness?

I have been having scalp pain for the past year that moves around to various parts of the top of my head. For the past few months it is in the center of my head. When I brush my hair, it is extrememly painful. My scalp is also red on the top. I have very thin hair now on the top of my head. It continues to thin. I also am excessively tired and want to sleep often. 12 hrs of sleep a day is often not enough. I have always not needed much sleep, 6 to 7 hours was beyond plenty. I have a hard time staying awake especially when driving. My feet have always been cold but recently, they are like ice. The rest of my body is warm or hot and my feet are freezing and I have to waer socks. I have always weighed about 155 lbs but have gained weight and now weigh 200 lbs and I have been trying to lose weight for months with correct diet and exercise. It has been next to impossible to lose more than 15-20 lbs. I have also been having a weird sensation in my throat. I have a hard time swallowing pills and food. Some days are worse than others and I have began to gag on occasion. I have explained these symptoms to my medical doctor and he has checked my thyroid saying my TSH is normal. Over the past year or two, he has checked it twice. Where do I go from here? I still have these same symptoms...nothing is improving.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent pain on the scalp along with redness . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergic reaction, contact dermatitis , eczema , psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis . Need not to worry. I would suggest you to apply cold compresses to rashes. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy food. You should take benadryl twice a day and avoid dry environment. You should consult allergy specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order allergy test , blood test for IgE antibodies and physical examination . Doctor may prescribe anti allergic medicine , corticosteroid ointment and anti inflammatory.Do not scratch or touch it again and again . Doctor may also recommend you to eat gluten free food if your problem is related with gluten allergy.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
