I am an 84 year old female, diagnosed with COPD and a torturous esophagus, suffering with chronic fluid discharge from nasal passages and throat, particularly about 1/2 hour after arising. This discharge with coughing is thick, yellow, slimy and sometime stringy. Can this fluid discharge be attributed to either of these diagnosis?
You are having fluid secretion from nose and post nasal drip. You are having cough also. So yes such a presentation could be due to COPD.
You can investigate further with spirometry for assessing severity and to decide further management plan. If needed antibiotic course like Levofloxacin can be prescribed of infection seems to be present.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
