What Causes Persistent Salty Taste In The Mouth?

My husband has been having a persistent salty taste in his mouth. It s been getting progressively stronger as passed has passed. No changes in diet and we drink filtered water. Today it s strong enough to make him nauseous. Our primary Dr. has no idea what it could be.

Hi,
Welcome to Health care magic. I have read & understood your concern.
Salty taste in mouth can be due to -
- Dryness of mouth due to dehydration.
-cold,postnasal drip or eye drops can lead to salty taste.
-infection of salivary ducts/glands followed by impaired saliva production could cause salty mouth.
-smoking can lead to it as well as can cause infection/blockage of ducts.
- Damage(at local or spinal or brain level) of nerve supplying the tangue can cause impaired taste
*Drinking of plenty of water/do gargles after putting eye drops, avoid smoking /doing hot saline gargles are some life style changes which would relieve the salty taste.
*Treatment of cold /postnasal drip/infection of salivary gland /nerve damage .. need expert opinion &investigations fillowed by specific yreatment .
Thanks
