What Causes Persistent Sense Of Yeasty And Chemical Smell In The Nose?

Hi. For more than a year now, I have a constant smell I think in my nose, although, I feel like I smell it on my skin. Sometimes it smells sweet and like a yeasty smell, other times it smells chemical-like or sulphur-like. No one else can smell it. My dog gas a skin fungus and the smell sometimes smells like the fungus. I have no signs of nasal infection. No mucus. My sense of taste is normal. I do not take any prescriptions drugs other than for hypothyroidism. The smell is becoming unbearable and pungent to me only. Any ideas? This is driving me crazy.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent sense of yeasty and chemical smell in the nose which seems to be due to disturbance in olfactory nerve sensations/distributions.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to keep your head elevated while sleeping and maintain proper oral hygiene. Use nasal saline spray with nasal wash 3 puff each nostril thrice daily to keep nose clean. You should consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order certain test to find out the exact cause and treat it accordingly. Avoid pricking nose with any sharp object.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
