Ok, so my knee has had sharp pains on the outside of my leg, knee length. Its been going on for over a week now and every time I try using steps (whether up or down) it sends the sharp pains. I can walk just fine. is it a ligament? or do I need surgery?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
The causative movement & site of pain suggest it to be lateral ligment pain. Simple trauma.. inflammation should go with medications/ rest / followed by physiotherapy.
Extent of the problem can be judged only after MRI of the joint. Please consult an orthopedic specialist.
Thanks,
I find this answer helpful
