What Causes Persistent Shortness Of Breath With Chest Tightness?

My name is Carlos brown, and for the last nine months ive had shortness of breath, I ve had multiple x-rays done with in the last nine months and I ve been to a cardiologist to check my heart just in case and they didn t find anything but I m still tight chested

Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum. I can understand your concern. In my opinion, you should definitely rule out asthma first. Your cardiologist visit was normal so no need to worry for heart diseases.

Shortness of breath with chest tightness is commonly seen with Asthma. Chest X-ray is usually normal in asthma. So consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).

If PFT is showing obstructive defect with good post bronchodilator reversibility, asthma is confirmed. You may need inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone). Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
