What Causes Persistent Swelling And Pain Between The Knuckle And Base Of Index Finger?
My partner cut his index finger knuckle with a can, pretty deep but we did not go to the doctor. We bandaged it and made put on a splint for a few days. Then eventually went to doctor. No fracture or infection they say but now after another 10 days with splint, it is still discolored, swollen and painful from knuckle to base of index finger. Very lumpy right on the knuckle. Concerned about long term possible damage.
The persistent swelling with pain at area between knuckle and base of index finger indicates hematoma which is not resolved over a period of time as it was bandaged and no other medications were consumed as not approached doc initially. Following measures for your future outcome should be focused: - Local application of ice - Antibiotics as cephalexin or others - Proteolytic enzymes as serratiopeptidase, chymoral forte or others which help to dis-integrate the hematoma - Incision and drainage may be a need of time if it does not resolve with conservative therapy
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
