What Causes Persistent Swelling And Pain In Clitoris?

Hi there, I woke up 3 mornings ago and my clitorous was swollen. I checked for any hairs in my urethra tube and there weren t any (this has happened to me before). I went for an 8km run and it seemed to irritate it more. I haven t been sexually active for two months. The next day I squeezed it because I thought it was an abscess- which was a bad idea because it was even more painful afterwards. After that it worsened. I went to the gynae the next day and he put me on antibiotics. He said it should get better within the next two days (which it hasn t ). It s extremely swollen, I struggle to walk, and it s very hard and painful. What could it be and what should I do? Thank you for your help!

Hello,

You are having persisting pain and swelling in the clitoris. Presently it is hard and you are struggling to walk. It is commonly caused by wearing tight clothing, use of sex toys causing hurting like abrasions, excessive masturbation, sexual abuse, yeast infection, contact dermatitis, sexual desire disorder, sexually transmitted diseases, etc. Do not touch or scratch it, take care of your hygiene. Take rest, do not walk unnecessarily. You can apply ointment Soframycin or Neosporin for relieve on the area affected.

Take acetaminophen / Combiflam, one SOS when pain and discomfort. Take a course of Augmentin orally for faster relief. However, since it is hard and swollen, you are suggested to get it clinically examined. Get it assessed, you may have to get it cleaned and drained. You may have to get admitted. Your treating doctor will recommend routine tests, investigations, imaging tests and STD tests. You will be treated according to the pathology detected & severity of your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
