What Causes Persistent Swollen Lymph Nodes Despite Taking Antibiotics?

My 18 year old son has swollen lymph nodes on one side of his neck. He also reported having direahea for a week. He also said he has an unusual dry mouth. He was treated with antibiotics about two weeks ago for a sinus infection. The antibiotics did not seem to help that much and he continued with congestion and being run down for about another week.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Well swollen lymph nodes in the side of neck when already having a recent history of sinus Infection is pointing towards Infection being the cause of swollen lymph nodes causing Reactionary Lymphadenopathy..

Also diarrhoea can be due to a side effect of antibiotics or other causes like electrolyte imbalance, stomach Infection etc..

Dry mouth is due to dehydration caused due to continuous diarrhea that causes water and electrolyte loss..

So first of all consult an Emergency room and get him evaluated..
Anti diarrhoea medication along with probiotics can help in relief..

For sinus congestion decongestant nasal sprays, saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation can help..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
