What Causes Persistent Throbbing Pain At The Base Of The Head?

I get headaches that will last at least a day. Pain in the back right side of head down the neck. Then feels like fireworks randomly inside my head. Severe pain when bending over to just sitting. It will last a day. The next day I feel groggy as if hung over. I get them either one a month or could go months without one. I have been to a doctor and they have no answer.

Hi...The symptoms shows that you might be suffering from migraine. The details like what medications you take during attacks are missing. And also are you on any kind of medications to prevent it?
If it is indeed migraine, you will be offered pain medications for terminating the attacks. If the attacks are too frequent and affecting your quality of life, daily medications can be taken to prevent future attacks.
Consider getting a consultation with a neurologist and discuss the above points. Hope the information helps you. Thanks.
