What Causes Persistent Twitching In Perineum At Night?

I am a 20 year old male. I started experiencing perineum twitching about 3 weeks ago and it happened a few times each night when i laid in bed. I started to notice it after the first week that it was happening every night so now I am worried. Now i also sometimes get a leg jerk too.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It looks like you are suffering from Focal Dystonia, it can arise due to no cause at all but it can be hereditary or sometimes due to some disorder in the Basal ganglia. The factors that may trigger it are fatigue, stress, caffeine, drug abuse, etc.

Focal dystonia is basically a Neurological disorder. You are suggested to visit a Neurologist, get examined, evaluated. Get done all tests (CBC, Nerve conduction tests, Urinalysis, Imaging (CT, MRI, EEG) tests) & get treated at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
