Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Upper Arm Pain Despite Taking Cortisone Shot?
I have significant pain in my upper right arm (muscle - deltoid area) when I raise it sideways from my body. It is painful to scratch the back of my head with my right arm, or if I try to stretch to reach for something, or move/rotate quickly. I am left handed. My doctor said I have a little arthritis and some calcification of some tendons but saw no issue with my rotator cuff when he did an ultrasound. He gave me a cortizone shot about five months ago that did no good. It seems to be getting worse. What should I do?
hello. your condition is suggestive of cervical involvement. I would highly recommend to get an xray of neck done to rule out nerve compression. arthritis is usually relieved by corticosteroids. If the rotator cuff is fine, cause is most likely to be because of nerve compression. best regards,
Dr Gunjan
