What Causes Persistent White Coated Tongue Despite Taking Medication?

I have been treated with 2 prescriptions (20days)of Nystatin for Thrush. I still have it and the tongue coating is at its worst. I am also on Azithromycin 250 mg 3days a week to prevent pneumonia. I have bronchiactisis, too. Is there anything else that looks like thrush but I need a different medication for? My pulmonologist wants me to stay on the Azithromycin as it is working as it was intended.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent white coated tongue despite taking medication which seems to be due to candidiasis or oral thrush, mild dehydration of oral cavity and accumulation of microbes in oral cavity. as its been since long time so it could be due to leukoplakia in mouth.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to use colloidal silver as gargle agent and take yogurt in diet on daily basis. Apply oxygenating toothpaste on tongue for 2-4 minutes. Maintain hygiene. Drink plenty of fluids. If your condition keeps on persisting visit dentist once and get these white coating scrap down for biopsy to rule out underlying cause as these could be leukoplakic patches.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
