What Causes Perspiration Odor Under Arm?

I have developed an underarm odor that is embarrassing. I have not had this problem before. I have not used deodorants or antiperspirant very much and never had a problem. My nerves have been a little unsettled lately but other than that I am having no other recognizable symptoms. What diseases or medical problems can cause this perspiration odor? I am a 64 female and had a modified radical mastectomy almost 20 years ago and have not been able to take hormones.

Hello,

I have gone through your query and would recommend you to get your thyroid function tests, fasting blood sugar levels and serum uric acid levels checked to rule out thyroid disease, hyperuricaemia and diabetes as they are associated with hyperhidrosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, Dermatologist
