What Causes Petechiae Under The Eyes After Choking On Food?

My 18 month granddaughter choked on food and I had to apply the Heimlich to free the blockage. This resulted in petechiae under both eyes. A week later, there is a significant behavioral change where she is angry and defiant (which is a huge change for her). If it wasn t just a week later, I would attribute this merely to her age. Should I be concerned? Thanks for your help!!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is due to elevated pressure during choking. It can happen after choking and forceful coughing.

Nothing much to worry and it will settle by itself.

No definite treatment is required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
