My Eurasian mother is 91. Been bedridden with late age parkinsons and dementia. She is cared by us at home for 2 yrs. She cannot talk, can only make some grunts, can only move her eyes and her fingers flutter a little. Fed via nose tube fortified milk 7 times daily at 3 hour intervals. Since she is lactose intolerant we finally found Peptamine milk the best for her (no diarrhea). Has a catheter for urine and we have a nurse come in half a day twice a week. But my mother is doing pretty OK because her vital organs are rather strong. However, she produces a lot of phlegm and though she sometimes coughs (or sneezes out) the phlegm, we are quite concerned. We have bought a suction machine for the nurse to use. In between we give her chest physio (twice a week) and give her mucosolvan to dilute the phlegm. Any advise from you much appreciated. Thanks.
