What Causes Pin Prick Feeling All Over Chest While Coughing?

I have had a bad cough and am on prednisone and benzonatate for the coughing - this has been going on since before Christmas. Tonight in a fit of coughing, I couldn't stop coughing and felt pin pricks all over my chest. Doctor also has me on a symbicort inhaler that he gave me. What would cause the pin pricks and is it something I need to mention to my Doctor? He also told me last Thursday to let him know if the cough does not improve in a week or so.

Hi and thanks for the query,
There are numerous causes that could range from mild trauma, to severe infections or at times tumors. In conditions like asthma, this kind of feeling could also be felt. A complete clinical review, past medical history, chest x rays and some lung volume tests are usually sufficient to make an appropriate diagnosis. I suggest you consult your primary care physician. thanks and kind regards.
