Intramuscular injection may sometimes lead to nerve damage. Generally there will be loss of sensation/ numbness in the area supplied by particular nerve. This pin pricking sensation could be sign of neuronal regeneration. Abscess will have symptoms like fever, pain, swelling and redness in that area. If you have these symptoms you should consult surgeon as may need drainage of abscess. Hopefully it should subside within a week if it's secondary to mild nerve damage.
