What Causes Pink Colored Watery Bleeding During Periods?

I have had my period since the third grade and I have never seen this before in my life. I am usually use to having really bad periods with extremely painful cramps and heavy flow. My blood is usually a normal dark red color but I just started a few minutes ago and I noticed that I had started but the blood was pinkish red and watery. I am 17. I have never had sex before so I do not have any stds nor am I pregnant. But why am I bleeding pink blood?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As a physician, I would like to tell you that the colour of your menstrual discharge changes from time to time. So, you need not to worry about it. I would also like to tell you that, if you experience a breakthrough bleeding in between two periods or pinkish red discharge, you should visit a MD Obgy doctor to get clinically examined and diagnosed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Abhijeet
