What Causes Pink Phlegm While Recovering From Ear, Sinus And Respiratory Infection?
went to urgent care had breathing treatement to open lungs and was given arithrimyasin and prednisone and codine and an antibiotic shot. still no fever. diagnosis was infection in both ears, upper resp, infection, and a sinus infection. in the beginning had severe chills and no energy then coughing started then nasal stuffiness then ears. now phelgm is almost like gelatin and is pink i that ok, does it mean that i am getting better or should i go back? prior to the arith. I gad been given augmentin but it didn't work even though i stopped taking my doxycycline.
Hello, hope you are feeling better now. To paraphrase your question, I understand that you had chills and a cough, stuffy nose and then a ear infection. After treatment with azithromycin, you have pink sputum, is that correct? When my patients come with pink sputum, if they are not breathless or sick (in which case I would think of fluid in the lungs or heart failure causing the pink sputum), a small amount usually is not a major cause for concern. It should settle once you complete your course of antibiotics, as it could be due to the infection itself producing the colour. Do see a doctor if you have any of the following: 1. Breathlessness 2. High fever 3. Loss of weight 4. Blood in the sputum
Wish you a speedy recovery. Will be happy to clarify if there are any other issues.
