I have pins & needles across my chest and starting to go down my left arm, the sensation started this morning and comes & goes within a few seconds. I am a dibetic & have had heart surgery could you give me some idea what might cause it. I am a 76 year old male reasonably fit walk often & play golf twice a week.

Hello!

Welcome to HCM and thank you for your question!

I understand your concern, and would explain that your symptoms coupled with your past medical history are very concerning for a possible coronary artery disease.

I recommend going to the ER for a careful physical examination, a resting ECG, a chest x ray and some lab tests : fasting glucose, complete blood count, kidney and liver function tests, blood electrolytes and cardiac enzymes to exclude possible acute coronary disease.

Further tests (like a coronary angiography, etc) may be needed if suspicions are raised.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes,

Dr. Iliri
