What Causes Pitichia In Children?

My 5 yr old son has pitichia on his cheeks. The only medical problems I am aware of are his seasonal allergies and mild asthma. Could the pitichia be caused from rubbing his eyes? He is in the 95th percentile for ht. And the 90th for wt. His wt. has never been a concern of our pediatrician. He has a muscular build.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Petechia is caused by bleeding under the skin. The most common cause is trauma to the area.

Other causes are allergies, infections, bruising ,autoimmune disorder.

If he was vigorously rubbing the area, it is possible that this would cause the petechia.

You can consider monitoring for now, if it does not resolve then he may need to go to his doctor for assessment.

I hope this helps
