What Causes Pneumonia And Strep Throat In A 12 Year Old?

12 year old had pneumonia and the strep came back positive, put on zithromax and inhaler. has low grade fever 99.6, up to 100, before antibiotics had 100.6. making really no progress, horrible cough and nausea. Doctor feels she might also have mono. took blood today, what is your feeling?

Thanks for your question in HCM. In my opinion you should again go for chest x ray and sputumculture with sensitivity since you son is not improving. And I would also like to step up the antibiotics as fever and cough is still there. For streptococcal infection cephalosporins are better than azithromycin.so change antibiotics to cefixime and send sputum for culture and sensitivity and further change based on sensitivity report.
