What Causes Poor Balance, Heaviness In Head And Fluid In Ears?

Am currently on meds for vertigo. However, I didn t have any dizziness or spinning spells. I had poor balance, a heavy head, and just felt completely wrong. There was some fluid on my ears, but the doctor seemed hesitant to call it vertigo, but gave me meds for it anyways. What else could this be? I haven t read 1 testimonial about vertigo that didn t have dizziness or the spins

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The symptoms you mention in query are clearly indicating a condition known as 'meniere's disease' . This disease is caused by alteration of the properties of inner ear fluid . There are certain factors which can change the properties of inner ear fluid like
- anatomically abnormalities of structure of ear.
- improper drainage of ear fluid.
- viral infection
- Trauma or migraine.

I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist (ear, nose, throat) for proper examination. Doctor will take medical history and do physical examination. Doctor may also order Videonystagmography , postugraphy , CT scan or MRI to confirm the diagnosis .

Doctor may prescribe antiamitic drugs , diuretics (frusamide) for retention of fluid and may give steroid or gentamicin injection .

Doctor may also recommend meniett device . Reduce salt intake .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
