Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I would like to know what are the causes for muffled hearing. I m a person who uses plug-in headphones almost everyday, might use them for 3 hours or so. This situation has never occurred to me until now, for past two days i m having a muffled hearing on my left ear. But when i put my finger behind my tragus and try pushing it outwards I m able to hear clearly. Can this be due to ear wax formation in my canal? I tried using warm saline water drops for 2 days but it hasn t helped me get rid of any wax. I have a really busy schedule and I m unable to go meet any ENT specialist during my weekdays. I might make an appointment during my weekend if it doesn t get better. Meanwhile I would like to get an expert assistance. For records I ve never had any issues earlier with my hearing.
You can have impacted wax in your ear. So you can have conductive hearing loss problem from that. I suggest Otoscopy ear examination for you. It will help in rule out underlying cause like impacted wax if present. Hearing tests and audiometry also be beneficial for further work up. I suggest you consult otorhinolaryngologist for examination and discuss all these.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
