Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 79 year old Mother keeps forgetting what she said the day before. She ll have a conversation with me. Then one or two days later she ll say to me I said no such thing ! She had suggested that I change my anti-deppressant. So I did. This morning I told her that I was getting bad side affects and it was a bad idea to change it. Well, she told me I never told you to change it ! That s only between you and your doctor . Is she losing it. Or is she just being a lair? She is also the kind of person who refuses to see a doctor. She s never taken a pill in her whole life.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
In my view, she is suffering from dementia, so get her investigated for MRI brain, serum D3, serum B12 and folate, thyroid function test, CBC, and blood sugar. Consult her doctor/psychiatrist as soon as possible as early intervention can detect the treatable cause and also slow the pace of dementia.
I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ramchandra Lamba
