What Causes Poor Speech In A Child?

About a month ago my 6 year old started talking as if she had to breathe in the middle of words. It s almost like gasping but its more that the words are only half coming out. When I ask her to repeat what she says, she can say the complete sentence with just minor interruptions. She is 6 and weighs about 48 pounds, picky eater just recently, and no health problems.
