What Causes Poor Weight Gain In An Infant?

My grandson is 5 weeks old today his weight is 9.6 oz. at birth he weighed 8.13 oz 21 inches long. He is being breast fed and eats every hour during the day and every2 hours at night. I am concerned that he isn t gaining enough weight in the past 5 weeks. what do you think? He was seen by a midwife today and she said he is fine.

Hi,
Thanks for the query. I understand your query.
Newborn babies loose weight in first few days of birth. After that they start regaining weight... they reach their original birth weight within 8-10 days.
The avarage weekly weight gain there after is 4-5 ozs . Considering this baby has normal weight gain at 5 weeks of age.
Thanks.
