What Causes Popping In Rib Cage During Deep Breathing?

Hi there,

I fell on a friends knee last friday and have damaged my ribs. I think they are just badly bruised. It is tender around the area that i hit but no bruising at all. Last night the front right of my stomach just down and to the right of my sternum got very hard and painful and swollen. This swelling is gone down somewhat now but if i take a deep breath, there seems to be some sort of popping or movement in there. Just hoping it is the swelling and not anything worse

Thanks in advance for your help

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Possibility of musculoskeletal injury is more likely for your symptoms.
So better to follow these steps for faster healing and recovery.
1. Wear rib belt to prevent mobilization of ribs.
2. Avoid movements causing pain. Avoid sudden jerky movements of chest.
3. Apply warm water pad on affected areas of chest.
4. Avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise.
5. Take simple painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs like ibuprofen and thiocolchicoside.
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these in 1 week.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
