Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Popping In The Ear Upon Opening The Jaw?
My son is having problems with his jaw and his ears. He says when he open his jaw his ears pop similar to what happens on an airplane. A dentist said something about a disc in his jaw is out of place and he'd need to where invisible braces to correct it.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain popping of the ears while opening the jaws seems to be most probably due to Jaw Joint Dysfunction commonly known as TMJ/TMD..
It seems to be a clicking sound as as you are told about the disk it seems to be due to displacement of the Articular disc that is present as a soft cushion between the two bony ends of joint..
It can cause direct contact of bony edges leading to popping or clicking sounds.. Placement of mouth guards or occlusal splints can help in resolution of the problem.. Along with it muscle relaxants, a soft diet and Physiotherapy can help..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
