Hi..
Can understand your concern..
As per your query Popping or clicking in jaw and pain can occur due to a number of reasons..
-One can be habit of clenching or grinding of teeth and is known as
BRUXISM..
-Other can be disruption or dislocation of articulating disc ( a soft cushion which is present between both the parts tat move the TMJ.
-Arthritic changes in joint can also cause popping and pain.
-Heavily stressed individuals who have a habit of cleanching the teeth can also have TMJ problems.
Other reasons can be trauma, birth defects and
paresis of face muscles.
The final diagnosis can be given once you are evaluated by a
dentist and required x-rays are done to rule out the exact cause of your problem..
For temporary relief from pain you can take
Ibuprofen or
Tylenol.
Dont give excessive stress to the TMJ by eating things which are very hard or need long time chewing like chewing gums.
Warm water bag applied on affected side can also help in relaxing the jaw muscles and relieve pain.
But consulting a dental surgeon is must..
Hope you get well soon..
Thanks and regards..
