What Causes Popping Sound In The Knee With Occasional Pain?

i m 22 year old and from last 3 year a sound come from my knees when ever i sit and stand and mostely there is no pain in the knees but some time i also feel pain in my knees plz tell me what is the reason behind this and how can i get rid from this problem
