Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
why there is a cracking/popping sound whenever I fold my knees? Although I dont feel any pain when it happens but sometimes there is a continuous sensation around my lower patella(the rounded structure) (feel uncomfortable but not painful) which makes me stretch my knees, bend in other direction and I dont feel like keeping it idle - which gives e some relief for some moment? I was a soccer player and later I became couch potato...recently for the couple of years I got my mojo back and hit the road, running, jogging swimming....which feels great and helps me to keep HBP at bay. I am 35yrs old work in IT and regular night shifts... P:S this pain or sensation with popping of my knees is not an everyday affair....it goes away and come back ...kind of like that.....Thank you!
As long as the popping sound in the knees does not cause any pain or restrain the knee movements this is nothing to worry about. Sometimes, air trapped between bones or tendons and ligaments rubbing against bone prominences can cause the knee to pop.
If you notice any pain, swelling or restraint movement, please have a check with your doctor.
I hope I have answered your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
