What Causes Popping Up Of Joints And Knee Pain After Platelet Transfusion?
Hi doctor. I had a bout of dengue fever in October 2016 due to which I was admitted to ICU. I had received a platelet transfusion. The hospital bathroom was a dirty one and after a month I was diagnosed with cystitis and kidney stones now I have regular joint popping and knee pain. Also after a month of transfusion I had common cold with no fever. Should I get tested for HIV?
You had severe dengue with platelet reduction for which you had to get admitted in an ICU and had platelet transfusion. There you had to use wash room which was not clean. You had urinary infection and now fever your doubts are whether the urinary infection is because of unclean toilets and this fever could be because of HIV..
Do not be panic..
Dengue is a viral infection that can reduce the immunity and combined with usage of unclean toilets could have precipitated urinary infection.
Do not worry about platelet transfusion. Now all blood products are thoroughly tested for HIV,hepB virus, malaria etc.. and transfused .Nowadays it's from a relative donar only.
In spite of this explanations you have doubt you have the testing for HIV by a card test and to confirm you can do western blot testing.
Hope this helps.
Take care
