What Causes Post Nasal Drip And Cough?

My husband had a slight cold two months ago which disappeared rather quickly. However the last six weeks or so has had a huge drainage problem from sinus area, resulting in major coughing, choking, spitting out all of this drainage which he says comes down into his throat from sinus area. Dr. checked his chest, etc. was fine and said it is not coming from there. No, he does not have symptoms from sinus area such as soreness under eyes, etc. He is beginning to not feel very good and tired from all of this. He is 73 and does have major heart issues. This worries me also.

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern.

As per your history your husband may be having allergic rhinitis, the much drain of nasal discharge may be because of it or he may be having chronic sinusitis, though there are no evidence of that as per your history.

You need to visit a ENT specialist and it properly evaluated. You may need also a CT or x ray to be done.

During mean time he can have anti allergic medication like levocitrizine and also have hot steam, this sometime is helpful too.

Hope my answer will help you and visit us back if you have any questions further.

Regards
Dr Jawahir.
