What Causes Postcoital Bleeding?

over the past three months I have experienced post coital bleeding - really heavy really bright red, lasting for about 10 min then stopping. I have been taking norethisterone tablets to delay my period during this time and am wondering if this is what has caused this. I ve never experienced anything like this before. pap smear year and a half ago all clear. I am 42.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Hormonal therapy may affect the womb and cause bleeding but generally if a patient has postcoital bleeding a gynecological visit is needed. According to the findings, the doctor may ask for another pap smear, tests for chlamydia and gonorrhea infection, and also a transvaginal ultrasound.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Kind regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
General and Family Physician
